Figure 8.5. LAME Preferences

LAME Preferences

Configure the LAME encoder, or choose from presets.

Preset

There are many preset recording styles and it is recommended you use one of these. The 'r3mix' preset is very popular.

Channels

Your MP3 recordings will either be in stereo or mono.

Encoding Method

Choose between VBR, CBR or ABR. We recommend VBR in most cases. The new VBR method is used. It has been tested and found to be as good as the old VBR method, but twice as fast.

Bitrate

For CBR encoding, this specifies the bitrate to be used. For ABR encoding, this specifies the average bitrate to try and be achieved.

VBR Quality

Select the VBR quality you require.

Location of LAME executable

The lame tool is used for encoding to MP3. iRecordMusic is not bundled with the tool, so you should install it yourself. Please refer to the chapter on LAME for more information.
